Moonlight & Roses, the Morris Arboretum’s annual fundraising gala was held on Friday, June 8, 2012. On this fabulous summer evening, 550 guests enjoyed signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the glorious Rose Garden. Under the moonlit tent, Arboretum members and friends savored an elegant dinner and were entertained by the lively sounds of the Janis Nowlan Band, chosen as one of the “Top 15 Bands in America” in the NBC 10 poll.
This year, proceeds raised from this event are designated to support annual operations and the interior renovations of the historic George D. Widener Education & Visitor Center.
Susan Oberwager, Ph.D, the evening’s honoree, has been a great friend and inspiration to the Arboretum for more than a decade. Susan is Co-Chair of the Always Growing Campaign, and has helped to raise more than $54 million towards the $60 million Campaign goal. Susan’s energy and clear focus have been pivotal to the realization of the Campaign’s two major capital projects, specifically the Out on a Limb exhibit and Phase 1 of the Horticulture Center at Bloomfield Farm. These achievements have transformed the Morris Arboretum into the world-renowned public garden, center for education, and model of sustainability that it is today. Susan also serves on the Morris Arboretum’s Advisory Board of Managers as well as several committees, and is an active Arboretum volunteer.
Devoted Arboretum friends, Peter Cilio and Denise De Laurentis Cilio, this year’s Moonlight & Roses co-chairs, worked diligently to ensure that Moonlight & Roses was a spectacular celebration.
