The young and restless

kidscampNo matter how much we love our kids, we still dread those empty weeks after school ends and before camp begins. So, we’ve found the perfect five-day camps that run June 8 to 12, filling that lost week. Problem solved.
FOR THE ENVIRONMENTALIST: RIVERBEND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER
Your little eco-kid will get closer to Mother Earth by touching, feeling and smelling nature. We like the Down and Dirty for Rangers session, a study of animals that live underground (think worms, chipmunks and snakes). Ages 4-5, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., $200, riverbendeec.org

FOR THE BUDDING ARTIST: MAIN LINE ART CENTER
Using children’s books and illustrations to help kids explore their creative sides, activities include clay, bookmaking, painting, jewelry making and more, with a gallery exhibit for all kids at the end of each week-long session. Ages 6-13, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., $340-$380, mainlineart.org

FOR THE DRAMA QUEEN: WAYNE ART CENTER
Each session here has a different theme. This week, it’s Summer Stage, where kids can practice improv, voice control and projection. Be sure to bring flowers for the final performance. Ages 7-9, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m., $190, wayneart.org

FOR THE ATHLETE: UPPER MAIN LINE Y
For your sports nut, only Tiny Golf or Tiny Tennis will do. Kids will learn the basics of each sport with age-appropriate equipment. Ages 4-6, 9 a.m.–12 p.m., $161-$197, umly.org

FOR THE INTELLECTUAL: PENN CENTER SUMMER ENRICHMENT
Kids specialize in three activities—with options like chess, cooking, dance, computers, knitting, art, sports, music and detective science—at the East Fall campus. Ages 7-12, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., $375, penncharter.com

FOR THE PHANATIC: PHILLIES BASEBALL ACADEMY
A camp at St. Joseph’s University’s (formerly Episcopal Academy’s) Merion campus includes coaching in baseball fundamentals, games, a home run derby, a tour of Citizens Bank Park and a chance to meet a Phillies player. Ages 7-14, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., $405, philliescamps.com

FOR THE CREATIVE TYPE: FAIRMOUNT ART CENTER
Camps include studio time, museum trips, art in the park, scavenger hunts, playground time and more. Ages 4-14, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $385, fairmountartcenter.com
