You’re not high maintenance. You just want what you want. Which can make finding just the right piece of furniture for your space a nearly impossible task. Fortunately, Wynnewood’s Alan Lorn, furniture maker extraordinaire, will come to your home for a consultation before creating a custom design exactly to your specifications. His meticulously handcrafted pieces, which are made from exotic woods like ebony, satinwood and bubinga, display Art Deco and Biedermeier influences—plus, of course, hints of your personal style. The result: functional artwork, in the form of desks, tables, dressers, beds and way more designed just for your home.
“I work alone, and I build everything one at a time,” Lorn says. “Pieces can take anywhere from 60 hours to several hundred hours; a bedroom set could take two months.” He also collaborates with a jeweler and a sculptor to adorn select pieces with decorative medallions in semiprecious materials like pewter and onyx. We love this bench (priced around $5,500) made of quilted maple inlaid with bloodwood and African satinwood. And Lorn’s work is now shown at Lisa M. Reisman et Cie, so you can check it out in person before setting up a consult.
